Overview

Bifidobacterium infantis Bi-26 is a **live biotherapeutic probiotic strain** consisting of *Bifidobacterium longum* subspecies *infantis* Bi-26, originally isolated from infant feces and developed as a nutritional microbiome intervention for infants. Its intended mechanism is colonization of the infant gut and **metabolism of human milk oligosaccharides**, including 2'-fucosyllactose, thereby promoting a bifidobacteria-dominant microbiota, production of beneficial microbial metabolites, and downstream support of gut barrier, immune maturation, and growth. The strain has been studied mainly in infant nutrition and microbiome-development settings, including underweight or malnourished infants and preclinical piglet models, and is typically formulated as a lyophilized oral powder resuspended in breast milk or water.
