Bifidobacterium infantis-derived extracellular vesicles (B. infantis-EVs) are a microbiome-based therapeutic candidate being investigated for the treatment of inflammatory bowel conditions, specifically non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)-induced colonic injury. These vesicles are purified from *Bifidobacterium longum* subsp. *infantis* and function by modulating the immune response and restoring gut microbial homeostasis. In preclinical models, B. infantis-EVs have demonstrated the ability to reduce pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β, IL-2, and TNF-α, while upregulating the anti-inflammatory cytokine TGF-β. Additionally, they help preserve mucosal architecture and promote the growth of beneficial gut microbes like *Akkermansia* and *Lactobacillus*. Research is primarily led by the Ewha Medical Research Institute.
