Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bifidobacterium infantis EVC001 + lacto-N-tetraose is a synbiotic combination developed by Evolve BioSystems, Inc. It consists of a specific probiotic bacterial strain, *Bifidobacterium longum* subspecies *infantis* EVC001, and a prebiotic human milk oligosaccharide (HMO), lacto-N-tetraose (LNT). This combination is designed to establish a healthy gut microbiome in infants, particularly those who are breastfed or preterm. *B. infantis* EVC001 is uniquely equipped with the genetic machinery to fully metabolize HMOs like LNT, allowing it to outcompete potentially pathogenic bacteria, lower intestinal pH, and support immune development. The product is being investigated for the prevention of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in preterm infants, the treatment of severe acute malnutrition, and the management of infant colic.
