Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This probiotic mixture consists of four bacterial strains: *Lactobacillus casei*, *Lactobacillus rhamnosus*, *Lactobacillus plantarum*, and *Bifidobacterium lactis*. Developed and manufactured by CellBiotec, the combination is designed to colonize the intestinal tract and modulate the host immune system. It has been clinically evaluated for the treatment of mild-to-moderate atopic dermatitis in children, where it was hypothesized to down-regulate Th2 cytokines and up-regulate Th1 or regulatory T-cell responses. Although the mixture demonstrated successful intestinal colonization in a 6-week randomized controlled trial, it did not show a statistically significant therapeutic advantage over placebo in improving clinical severity scores (EASI and VASP) or altering serum cytokine levels (IL-4, IL-10, TNF-alpha).
