Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bifidobacterium lactis Bl-04 is a specific probiotic strain of *Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis* that has been extensively studied for its role in supporting immune health. It is primarily used in dietary supplements and functional foods to reduce the risk and duration of upper respiratory tract infections and to alleviate symptoms of seasonal allergies, such as birch pollen allergy. The strain was originally developed by Danisco and is now part of the IFF (International Flavors & Fragrances) portfolio under the HOWARU brand. Bl-04 is thought to work by modulating the gut-associated lymphoid tissue, thereby influencing systemic immune responses and improving the body's resistance to viral challenges like the common cold.
