Overview

Bifidobacterium lactis BX-BC08 (also known as Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis BX-BC08) is a probiotic bacterial strain being investigated as a live biotherapeutic product for the treatment of atopic dermatitis (AD). The strain functions by modulating the gut microbiota composition and secreting alpha-ketoglutaric acid (AKG), a metabolite with anti-inflammatory properties. Preclinical studies in mouse models of atopic dermatitis have shown that BX-BC08 significantly attenuates pro-inflammatory responses, reduces skin scaling and swelling, and restores intestinal barrier integrity. Its mechanism involves shifting the immune profile away from Th2-dominant responses and enriching beneficial gut probiotics while reducing pro-inflammatory bacterial taxa.
