Overview

Bifidobacterium lactis CNCM I-3446 is a specific probiotic strain of *Bifidobacterium animalis* subsp. *lactis* deposited at the Collection Nationale de Cultures de Microorganismes (CNCM). It is primarily developed and utilized by Nestlé as a functional ingredient in infant formulas and nutritional supplements. The strain has been clinically investigated for its potential to modulate the intestinal microbiota and immune response in infants, specifically for the treatment and prevention of atopic dermatitis (eczema) and the progression of allergic diseases. Clinical trial data, including the ISRCTN41490500 study, have evaluated its efficacy as a dietary supplement in infants aged 3-6 months; however, results indicated no significant benefit in reducing eczema severity (SCORAD scores) compared to placebo when administered alongside standard topical treatments.
