Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Bifidobacterium lactis HN019 + Lactobacillus acidophilus NCFM + polydextrose** is a synbiotic formulation consisting of two specific probiotic bacterial strains and a prebiotic fiber. The probiotics, *Bifidobacterium lactis* HN019 (also known as *B. animalis* subsp. *lactis*) and *Lactobacillus acidophilus* NCFM, are combined with polydextrose (marketed as Litesse), a highly branched glucose polymer that serves as a prebiotic substrate. This combination is designed to modulate the gut microbiota to improve intestinal motility and metabolic health. Clinical studies have demonstrated its efficacy in shortening colonic transit time in patients with chronic constipation and its potential anti-obesity effects in individuals with metabolic syndrome, particularly when combined with a high-fiber diet. The formulation was originally developed and supplied by Danisco (now part of IFF) and has been investigated in randomized clinical trials conducted by institutions such as The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
