Overview

Bifidobacterium lactis UABLA-12 is a proprietary probiotic strain of Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis, used as a dietary supplement to support gastrointestinal health and immune function. It has been studied in randomized controlled trials for its efficacy in improving symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), including abdominal pain, symptom severity, and normalization of bowel habits[1][3][6]. Mechanistically, this probiotic acts by modulating the gut microbiota, enhancing barrier function in the gut mucosa, inhibiting pathogens through acid production and competitive exclusion, and supporting immune regulation[4][5]. Supplementation with B. lactis UABLA-12 has also been associated with improved stool consistency and potential benefits for lactose digestion and micronutrient synthesis[5].
