Bifidobacterium longum 1714 is a specific strain of probiotic bacteria, also known as a psychobiotic, that has been studied for its effects on the gut-brain axis. [12] Developed by PrecisionBiotics in partnership with the APC Microbiome Institute in Cork, Ireland, this strain has been shown to support mental well-being by modulating the body's response to stress. [2, 8] Clinical studies have indicated that B. longum 1714 can reduce perceived stress and cortisol levels, improve cognitive function, and enhance sleep quality. [4, 9, 15] Its mechanism of action involves immunomodulation, such as reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines like TNF-alpha and increasing the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10, and influencing tryptophan metabolism, a precursor to serotonin and melatonin. [11, 13] It is commercially available as a dietary supplement under brand names like Zenflore and ProbioBrain. [1, 7]
