Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bifidobacterium longum A101 is a live probiotic bacterial strain. [1, 6] It has been investigated as a component of a multi-strain formulation, which also included B. bifidum A218, B. catenulatum A302, and L. plantarum A87, for the treatment of inflammation and endotoxemia in chronic kidney disease patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis. [1, 6] In a six-month clinical trial, this formulation demonstrated the ability to significantly lower levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-6, TNF-α, and IL-5, as well as endotoxin levels. [1, 6] Concurrently, it was observed to significantly increase the levels of the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10 when compared to a placebo. [1, 6]
