Bifidobacterium longum BL21 is a specific probiotic strain of the species Bifidobacterium longum, isolated from the intestines of healthy infants. [7] Developed by Wecare Probiotics, it is being investigated for various health benefits. [6, 9, 10] Clinical studies are evaluating its potential therapeutic effects. A Phase II trial has assessed its use in preventing acute radiation-induced intestinal injury (enteritis) in patients undergoing pelvic radiotherapy.
