Overview

Bifidobacterium longum CCFM1113 (also known as B. longum subsp. longum CCFM1113) is a probiotic bacterial strain developed by researchers at Jiangnan University and maintained in the Culture Collection of Food Microorganisms (CCFM). It is currently under investigation as a live biotherapeutic product for the treatment of constipation. The strain's therapeutic effect is attributed to its ability to produce acetic acid, which promotes the repair of the intestinal mechanical and immune barriers. Furthermore, CCFM1113 has been shown to inhibit the secretion of aquaporin 8 (AQP8), a water channel protein, thereby decreasing intestinal water reabsorption and maintaining stool moisture. It has also been studied in combination with other strains, such as Bifidobacterium bifidum CCFM1167, to enhance its efficacy in restoring gut barrier function.
