Overview

Bifidobacterium longum CCM 7952 is a specific probiotic bacterial strain of the subspecies *longum* that has been identified for its potent immunomodulatory and gut-protective properties. Originally isolated from the fecal samples of healthy infants or adults, this strain is characterized by its ability to preserve the integrity of the intestinal epithelial barrier. It achieves this by maintaining the expression and proper localization of tight junction proteins, specifically zonulin-1 and occludin, which are often disrupted in inflammatory conditions. Preclinical studies demonstrate that CCM 7952 can prevent the development of acute ulcerative colitis and allergic sensitization. Its mechanism involves signaling through Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2) and Nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-containing protein 2 (NOD2), leading to a reduction in pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α and IFN-γ in the mesenteric lymph nodes.
