Overview

Bifidobacterium longum FGSZY6M4 is a live biologic therapeutic consisting of a specific probiotic bacterial strain, Bifidobacterium longum subspecies longum, being researched for the treatment of constipation. It was selected from the Culture Collection of Food Microorganisms at Jiangnan University in China and is registered under a Chinese patent (ZL113943682A). Preclinical research in rats with loperamide-induced constipation showed that FGSZY6M4 was the most effective among three tested strains, with an optimal dose delivered via colon-released capsules. Its mechanism of action involves regulating gastrointestinal peptides like motilin (MTL), gastrin (GAS), and vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP), as well as aquaporin-3 and 5-hydroxytryptamine levels. This modulation improves fecal water content and promotes intestinal motility. No commercial developer has been identified.
