Bifidobacterium longum P26

Bifidobacterium longum P26 is a specific strain of probiotic bacteria isolated from the stools of healthy human volunteers. Preclinical research in mice has shown that this strain, when administered orally, can alleviate symptoms of colitis and associated depression/anxiety-like behaviors induced by pathogenic bacteria such as Clostridioides difficile and Clostridium symbiosum. [1] The proposed mechanism of action involves the suppression of pathogenic bacterial growth and the reduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines, including tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β), in both the colon and the hippocampus.
