Overview

Bifidobacterium longum-pNZ44-Oxyntomodulin (Bl-OXM) is an engineered live biotherapeutic product designed for the oral delivery of oxyntomodulin (OXM). OXM is a gut hormone that acts as a dual agonist for the glucagon receptor (GCGR) and the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R). This therapeutic candidate utilizes a specific probiotic strain, *Bifidobacterium longum* (ATCC15707), as a carrier transformed with the pNZ44-OXM expression vector. Developed by researchers in Hangzhou, China, Bl-OXM is primarily investigated for the treatment of painful diabetic neuropathy (PDN). Preclinical studies have demonstrated that oral administration of Bl-OXM can alleviate pain, reverse nerve fiber lesions, and restore neuronal hyperexcitability by regulating gut microbiota homeostasis and inhibiting the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB proinflammatory signaling pathway in the sciatic nerve.
