Overview

Bifidobacterium longum spp. infantis YLGB-1496 is a proprietary probiotic strain isolated from human breast milk. [2, 3] It is being developed to modulate the gut microbiome and immune system, particularly in children. [1, 3] Clinical studies have shown that it can reduce the incidence of respiratory and gastrointestinal illnesses, such as upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs), bronchopneumonia, diarrhea, and eczema in children. [1, 3, 7] The mechanism of action involves modulating the gut microbiome, reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines like IL-1β and IFN-γ, and increasing the production of beneficial short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) and immunoglobulins like IgA. [1, 3, 7] It is administered orally as a powder. [3] The strain is registered with the China Center for Type Culture Collection (CCTCC No. M2011122). [3]
