Overview

Bifidobacterium longum subsp. infantis BI45 is a specific probiotic strain of the species Bifidobacterium longum subsp. infantis, which is a Gram-positive, anaerobic, heterofermentative bacterium. This subspecies is recognized for its unique ability to metabolize the full spectrum of human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs), enabling superior colonization in the infant gut and facilitating the formation of a bifidobacteria-rich microbiota. Probiotics containing B. infantis have demonstrated anti-inflammatory activity, reduction of intestinal permeability, and positive modulation of immune responses, with clinical studies supporting their use to enhance intestinal and immune functions in both infants and adults. Specifically, the BI45 strain is being studied as a food supplement for its potential to improve intestinal and immune functions in healthy adults[1][4].
