Overview

Bifidobacterium pseudocatenulatum W112 is a live biotherapeutic probiotic strain originally isolated from healthy infant feces. It is being investigated for its potential therapeutic applications in mental health, hepatology, and oncology. In preclinical models, W112 has demonstrated the ability to alleviate depressive-like behaviors and liver injury induced by chronic stress by modulating the gut-liver-brain axis. Its mechanism involves the regulation of neuroendocrine activity, reduction of inflammatory markers, and restoration of gut microbiota balance. Additionally, W112 has shown promise as an adjuvant in cancer immunotherapy, specifically enhancing the efficacy of PD-1 antibody treatment in melanoma by increasing CD8+ T cell infiltration and promoting a pro-inflammatory tumor microenvironment through the enrichment of interleukin-12 (IL-12) and interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma).
