Overview

Bifidobacterium reuteri Ab.338 SH is a specific probiotic bacterial strain isolated from traditional yogurt, identified by the GenBank accession number PV961363. It is being researched as a live biotherapeutic for its potential antitumor properties, particularly as an adjuvant therapy to enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in aggressive brain tumors like glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). In preclinical studies using U-87 MG glioblastoma cells, the strain has demonstrated the ability to potentiate the effects of carboplatin by modulating apoptotic and cell cycle regulatory pathways. Its mechanism of action involves the regulation of Caspase, AKT/PTEN, and P53/P21 signaling axes, which are often dysregulated in resistant tumor cells.
