Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bifidobacterium tetragenous viable tablets (commonly known by the brand name Si Lian Kang) is a live biotherapeutic product (probiotic) composed of four distinct bacterial strains: *Bifidobacterium infantis*, *Lactobacillus acidophilus*, *Enterococcus faecalis*, and *Bacillus cereus*. It is a regulated pharmaceutical product in China, primarily indicated for the treatment of intestinal dysbiosis and associated symptoms such as diarrhea, constipation, and abdominal distension. The formulation works by replenishing beneficial gut flora, producing organic acids to lower intestinal pH, and competing with pathogenic bacteria for nutrients and adhesion sites, thereby restoring the ecological balance of the gut microbiota. In clinical research, it is being investigated for its potential to mitigate radiation-induced toxicities, such as radiation pneumonitis in lung cancer patients, through the modulation of the gut-lung axis and systemic inflammatory responses.
