Bifidobacterium triplex is a probiotic combination drug, typically formulated as capsules, containing three live bacterial strains: *Bifidobacterium longum*, *Lactobacillus acidophilus*, and *Enterococcus faecalis*. It is widely used in China to treat intestinal dysbiosis and associated symptoms such as refractory diarrhea, constipation, and abdominal distension. The mechanism of action involves the colonization of the intestinal tract by these beneficial bacteria, which produce organic acids (like lactic and acetic acid) to lower the local pH, thereby inhibiting the growth of pathogenic bacteria. Additionally, the strains compete for nutrients and adhesion sites on the intestinal mucosa, enhance the intestinal barrier function, and modulate the local immune response. In clinical trials, it is often used as a standard-of-care probiotic control for evaluating novel microbiome-based therapies like fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT).
