Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bifidum is a liquid probiotic concentrate containing live *Bifidobacterium bifidum* (specifically the strain 791/BAG), developed and manufactured by the Russian biotechnology company Vector-BiAlgam. The product is designed to restore and maintain the balance of intestinal microflora, which can be disrupted by factors such as antibiotic therapy, infections, or poor diet. As a live biotherapeutic, it works by colonizing the gastrointestinal tract, competing with pathogenic microorganisms for nutrients and adhesion sites, and producing metabolites like lactic and acetic acids that lower luminal pH. Bifidum is marketed in Russia for the treatment and prevention of dysbiosis, gastrointestinal disorders, and as an adjunct therapy for various infectious diseases to support the immune system.
