Overview

BIIB-095 is an oral small molecule drug developed by Biogen for the treatment of chronic pain, particularly neuropathic pain and painful diabetic polyneuropathy. It acts as a selective inhibitor (blocker) of the Nav1.7 voltage-gated sodium channel (Sodium channel protein type IX alpha subunit), a target implicated in the transmission of pain signals in the nervous system. By blocking Nav1.7, BIIB-095 was designed to reduce or prevent pain signaling[1][2][3][4]. The drug reached phase 1 clinical trials but development has since been discontinued[1][2].
