Overview

BIIB023 is a humanized monoclonal antibody that targets and inhibits TWEAK (TNF-like weak inducer of apoptosis), a cytokine involved in inflammation and tissue remodeling. Developed by Biogen (formerly Biogen Idec), BIIB023 was investigated as an anti-inflammatory and antirheumatic agent for diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus nephritis. The drug acts by binding to the TNFSF12 protein (TWEAK), thereby modulating its activity in inflammatory pathways. Clinical studies included intravenous administration in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and lupus nephritis, but development was discontinued after early-phase trials due to lack of efficacy or strategic reasons[1][2][3][4][5][7].
