Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BIM-IOL (Bimatoprost Drug Pad–IOL System) is an investigational drug-device combination developed by SpyGlass Pharma. It consists of two non-bioerodible drug-eluting pads attached to the optic-haptic junction of a monofocal hydrophobic acrylic intraocular lens (IOL), designed to be implanted during routine cataract surgery. The active ingredient is bimatoprost, a prostaglandin analog that lowers intraocular pressure (IOP) by targeting prostaglandin receptors (FP receptors) to increase aqueous humor outflow. The system is intended to treat elevated IOP in patients with mild-to-moderate open-angle glaucoma (OAG) or ocular hypertension (OHT), delivering bimatoprost continuously for up to 3 years. It is currently in Phase III clinical trials.
