Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BimaGard is a veterinary antibiotic liquid concentrate containing 12.5% tiamulin hydrogen fumarate. It is a pleuromutilin antibiotic indicated for the treatment of swine dysentery associated with Brachyspira hyodysenteriae and swine pneumonia caused by Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae. Developed and manufactured by Bimeda, Inc., BimaGard is an FDA-approved generic version of Denagard. The drug works by binding to the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, specifically at the peptidyl transferase center, thereby inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis in susceptible pathogens. It is administered to swine via drinking water for five consecutive days.
