Bimagrumab is a fully human monoclonal antibody that targets and inhibits activin type II receptors (ActRII), including activin receptor type-2B. By blocking these receptors, bimagrumab prevents the action of natural ligands such as myostatin and other negative regulators of muscle growth, resulting in anabolic effects on skeletal muscle mass. This mechanism promotes muscle preservation and growth while also reducing fat mass. Bimagrumab has been investigated for the treatment of conditions characterized by muscle wasting (such as sarcopenia and sporadic inclusion body myositis), obesity, and metabolic disturbances including type 2 diabetes. It is administered intravenously, typically in a hospital or clinic setting[1][4][6][10].
