Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bimatoprost SR (marketed as Durysta) is a sterile, biodegradable, intracameral sustained-release implant containing the prostaglandin analog bimatoprost. Developed by Allergan (now part of AbbVie), it is indicated for the reduction of intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. The implant is designed to be administered into the anterior chamber of the eye, where it slowly releases bimatoprost over several months, providing a continuous therapeutic effect and potentially overcoming issues related to patient non-adherence with daily topical eye drops. Bimatoprost works by increasing the outflow of aqueous humor through both the trabecular meshwork and uveoscleral pathways, thereby lowering IOP.
