Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The Bimatoprost Implant System (BIM-IOL System) is a long-acting, sustained-release drug delivery platform developed by SpyGlass Pharma for patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension who are undergoing cataract surgery. The system integrates two non-bioerodible drug-eluting pads onto a standard hydrophobic acrylic intraocular lens (IOL). These pads are pre-loaded with bimatoprost, a prostaglandin analogue, and are designed to provide continuous therapeutic delivery for up to three years. By combining the drug delivery with a necessary cataract procedure, the system aims to improve patient compliance and provide stable intraocular pressure (IOP) control. The device is implanted into the capsular bag through a standard incision during phacoemulsification.
