Bimatoprost low-dose punctal plug was an investigational **sustained-release ophthalmic combination product** developed by Vistakon Pharmaceuticals for open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. The drug-delivery device was inserted into the lacrimal punctum and designed to continuously release the prostaglandin analog bimatoprost onto the ocular surface for approximately 14 days. Bimatoprost lowers intraocular pressure by increasing aqueous-humor outflow, principally through prostaglandin F receptor-mediated effects on the uveoscleral outflow pathway. In a Phase 2 randomized study, the low-dose device did not demonstrate a dose-response relationship or intraocular-pressure lowering superior to placebo; the program was subsequently discontinued.
