Overview

Bimekizumab is a humanized IgG1 monoclonal antibody that selectively and simultaneously inhibits the pro-inflammatory cytokines interleukin-17A (IL-17A), interleukin-17F (IL-17F), and their heterodimer IL-17AF. By blocking these cytokines, which are central to the IL-17/23 inflammatory pathway, bimekizumab reduces inflammation associated with several autoimmune diseases. It is approved for use in adults with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, non-radiographic axial spondyloarthritis, and hidradenitis suppurativa. Bimekizumab was developed by UCB and is marketed under the brand name Bimzelx. Its dual inhibition of both IL-17A and IL-17F distinguishes it from other agents targeting only one of these cytokines[2][5][6][7][8].
