Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bimintongqiao decoction is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by the Jiangsu Province Hospital of Chinese Medicine for the treatment of allergic rhinitis. As a hospital-specific preparation, it is designed to address the TCM patterns of Qi deficiency and wind-cold invasion. Pharmacologically, the decoction exerts anti-allergic and immunomodulatory effects by regulating the balance between Th1 and Th2 immune responses. It has been shown to decrease the production of pro-inflammatory Th2 cytokines such as Interleukin-4 (IL-4) and Interleukin-5 (IL-5) while increasing Th1 cytokines like Interferon-gamma (IFN-γ). Additionally, it reduces serum levels of allergen-specific Immunoglobulin E (IgE) and inhibits the infiltration of eosinophils into the nasal mucosa, thereby alleviating symptoms such as sneezing, rhinorrhea, and nasal congestion.
