Bimokalner is an investigational small molecule drug developed by Acousia Therapeutics for the prevention and treatment of hearing loss, particularly cisplatin-induced hearing loss in cancer patients. It acts as a selective agonist (stimulator) of the voltage-gated potassium channel Kv7.4 (also known as KCNQ4), which plays a key role in regulating neuronal excitability and maintaining cochlear function. Bimokalner is administered via transtympanic injection to deliver the drug directly to the middle ear, aiming to protect inner ear structures from damage caused by ototoxic agents such as cisplatin. The drug is currently in Phase 2 clinical trials for hearing loss prevention and has also been studied preclinically for aminoglycoside-induced deafness[1][3][4][5].
