Overview

Bimosiamose is a small molecule pan-selectin antagonist developed as an anti-inflammatory agent. It inhibits the recruitment of neutrophils to sites of inflammation by blocking the initial rolling phase mediated by selectins (E-selectin, L-selectin, and P-selectin). This mechanism reduces leukocyte adhesion and migration into inflamed tissues. Bimosiamose has been investigated for use in asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), atopic dermatitis, psoriasis and psoriatic disorders, acute lung injury, adult respiratory distress syndrome, and other inflammatory conditions. The drug was initially discovered by Encysive Pharmaceuticals and later developed by Revotar Biopharmaceuticals[3][5][4]. Clinical studies have shown that it can reduce airway eosinophil recruitment in asthma patients after intravenous administration[3][6].
