Overview

Binahong (*Anredera cordifolia*) is a medicinal plant native to South America but widely used in Southeast Asia, particularly Indonesia, for its diverse therapeutic properties. The plant's leaves are rich in bioactive compounds including flavonoids (such as vitexin and quercetin), saponins, and tannins. It is primarily recognized for its potent anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and wound-healing activities. Clinical and preclinical studies have explored its efficacy in treating allergic rhinitis (via nasal irrigation), accelerating alveolar bone and burn wound healing, and managing metabolic conditions like diabetes, obesity, and hypercholesterolemia. Its mechanisms involve the modulation of pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-4, IL-6, TNF-α), inhibition of COX-2 and HMG-CoA reductase, and regulation of the PI3K/ERK signaling pathways.
