Overview

Binggan Granule is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed by Shuguang Hospital, affiliated with the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, specifically for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C (CHC). The formulation is designed according to TCM principles to invigorate the spleen, nourish the liver, and resolve blood stasis. It is a complex mixture of herbal extracts, typically including *Astragalus membranaceus* (Huangqi), *Polygonum multiflorum* (He Shou Wu), *Salvia miltiorrhiza* (Danshen), *Curcuma zedoaria* (E Zhu), and *Hedyotis diffusa* (She She Cao). Clinical research, including Phase 2 and Phase 3 trials in China, has indicated that Binggan Granule can effectively reduce serum HCV-RNA levels, normalize liver enzymes such as alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and improve clinical symptoms like fatigue and liver pain. It is often utilized as an adjuvant therapy alongside standard antiviral regimens (such as interferon and ribavirin) or as a standalone treatment for patients who are ineligible for or intolerant to conventional antiviral drugs.
