Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Binospan Composto is a fixed-dose combination drug developed by Cazi Química Farmacêutica, containing the antispasmodic agent scopolamine butylbromide (also known as hyoscine butylbromide) and the non-opioid analgesic/antipyretic agent dipyrone (metamizole). It is approved in Brazil for the rapid relief of painful spasms and cramps associated with the gastrointestinal, biliary, and genitourinary tracts, including menstrual cramps (dysmenorrhea). Scopolamine butylbromide acts as a competitive antagonist at muscarinic acetylcholine receptors, particularly the M3 subtype, leading to smooth muscle relaxation in abdominal organs. Dipyrone acts primarily by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, thereby reducing prostaglandin synthesis and alleviating pain and fever. Together, these two active ingredients provide synergistic relief from spasmodic pain.
