Bio-engineered microRNA-7 is a recombinant RNA therapy designed to mimic endogenous miR-7, a tumor-suppressive microRNA. Produced using an Escherichia coli expression system, it is intended for therapeutic use particularly in oncology. Mechanistically, it targets the Akt3/p53 signaling axis—by suppressing Akt3, it decreases phosphorylation/nuclear translocation of MDM2, thereby stabilizing p53 and promoting apoptosis in cancer cells. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that bio-engineered microRNA-7 inhibits cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, and induces apoptosis in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) models, including significant tumor growth repression in vivo.[1][5] Development focuses on its application in NSCLC, with mechanistic implications in other malignancies where miR-7 exerts tumor-suppressive effects.[3]
