Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bio-T-Gel is a once-daily transdermal testosterone gel developed by BioSante Pharmaceuticals and licensed to Teva for late-stage development and commercialization, indicated for the treatment of male hypogonadism (low testosterone). It delivers synthetic testosterone through the skin into the systemic circulation to restore serum testosterone concentrations to the normal physiological range, thereby improving symptoms such as decreased libido, impotence, fatigue, muscle weakness, and loss of bone density. As an exogenous androgen, testosterone binds to and activates intracellular androgen receptors, modulating gene transcription involved in male sexual development, maintenance of secondary sexual characteristics, muscle mass, erythropoiesis, and bone metabolism.[1][3][5][13][14]
