Overview

Bio-three is a symbiotic probiotic preparation composed of three distinct bacterial strains: *Bacillus mesentericus* TO-A, *Clostridium butyricum* TO-A, and *Enterococcus faecalis* T-110. Developed by Toa Pharmaceutical, this combination is designed to optimize the intestinal environment through a synergistic relationship where *B. mesentericus* promotes the growth of the other two strains. *C. butyricum* is a significant producer of butyric acid, a short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) that provides energy to colonocytes, maintains mucosal integrity, and exerts anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting histone deacetylases and activating G-protein coupled receptors like GPR43. *E. faecalis* produces lactic acid, which lowers intestinal pH to inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria. Bio-three is primarily used for the treatment of gastrointestinal disturbances, including diarrhea, constipation, and irritable bowel syndrome, and is increasingly investigated for its role in modulating the gut-immune axis.
