Overview

Bioallethrin is a synthetic type I pyrethroid insecticide and ectoparasiticide consisting of an approximately 1:1 mixture of two active allethrin stereoisomers. It is used principally in household insect-control products, including mosquito coils, vaporizing devices, aerosols, and other spatial-repellent or adulticide applications against mosquitoes, flies, cockroaches, and related pests. Its intended insecticidal action is modulation of insect voltage-gated sodium channels, causing abnormal neuronal excitation, paralysis, knockdown, and death; mosquito spatial repellency additionally involves olfactory signaling.
