Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BioAstin Hawaiian Astaxanthin is a dietary supplement featuring natural astaxanthin, a potent xanthophyll carotenoid derived from the microalgae *Haematococcus pluvialis*. Cultivated by Nutrex Hawaii (a subsidiary of Cyanotech Corporation) on the Kona Coast of Hawaii, it is recognized for its high antioxidant capacity, which is significantly greater than that of vitamin E and beta-carotene. Astaxanthin's unique molecular structure allows it to integrate into the cellular lipid bilayer, providing antioxidant protection across the entire cell membrane. It is primarily used to support joint and tendon health, skin health (particularly against UV-induced oxidative stress), eye health, cardiovascular function, and recovery from exercise. As a nutraceutical, it is available in various softgel potencies and is not classified as a pharmaceutical drug for the treatment of specific diseases.
