BIOBank bone paste is a ready-to-use, partially demineralized allogeneic bone graft designed for oral and maxillofacial surgery. Developed by the French tissue bank BIOBank, the material is derived from human bone (femoral heads) harvested during hip replacement surgeries. The production process involves partial demineralization using hydrochloric acid (HCl) and viral inactivation via supercritical CO2 treatment. This moldable and extrudable biomaterial is primarily indicated for guided bone regeneration (GBR) to augment alveolar ridges in patients requiring dental implants. While it offers ease of use compared to traditional bone powders, clinical studies have noted its viscoelastic consistency may result in different bone gain profiles compared to particulate grafts.
