Overview

BIOC11 is a preclinical **nitric oxide-releasing anti-infective drug candidate** being developed by Vast Therapeutics, a subsidiary of KNOW Bio, for chronic pulmonary infections associated with cystic fibrosis. The agent uses a proprietary **water-soluble nitric oxide-releasing biopolymer** technology in a **synthetically derived powder-based formulation** to deliver nitric oxide locally as a small-molecule antimicrobial payload. Its proposed mechanism is direct killing of bacterial pathogens through nitrosative and oxidative damage to microbial cellular components, including DNA, with reported activity against *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*, other antibiotic-resistant bacteria, and nontuberculous mycobacteria in animal models. BIOC11 received FDA Qualified Infectious Disease Product designation in 2019, supporting potential priority review and fast-track eligibility if clinical development advances.
