Bioceramic putty refers to a class of pre-mixed, moldable, ceramic-based materials used primarily in dental and endodontic applications. The putties are typically based on calcium silicate and/or strontium silicate, and may contain additional bioactive and radiopaque components, such as calcium phosphate and tantalum oxide. They are engineered to be biocompatible, antibacterial, and bioactive, promoting dentin bridge and bone formation, while providing a hermetic seal for root repair procedures. The mechanism of action is primarily physical and chemical: these materials set in the presence of moisture, forming a stable, alkaline, and bioactive barrier that can bond to dentin and promote tissue regeneration. Their primary indications include root-end filling in endodontic microsurgery, perforation repair, pulp capping, apexification, and treatment of resorption defects[1][2][3][5][7]. Major brands include EndoSequence BC RRM Putty (Brasseler), C-Root BP (uses patented strontium silicate), and iRoot BP Plus. These materials have high mechanical strength, excellent sealing ability, radiopacity, and favorable handling properties.
