Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Biochymal is an allogeneic mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) therapy being developed by Taiwan Bio Therapeutics for the treatment of ischemic lower extremity conditions, including critical limb ischemia, difficult non-healing wounds caused by lower extremity ischemia, and diabetic foot ulcers.[3][9][11][13] The product uses human bone marrow–derived MSCs expanded with a proprietary hypoxia-based cell expansion technology designed to enhance cell engraftment, delay senescence, and increase secretion of pro‑angiogenic and regenerative factors.[3][9] Administered primarily by intramuscular injection into ischemic limbs, Biochymal is intended to promote therapeutic angiogenesis and tissue repair through paracrine release of angiogenic and cytoprotective mediators, thereby improving perfusion and wound healing in patients with severe peripheral arterial disease.[3][9][11] The program has progressed through an early phase I/IIa clinical trial approved by the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration, with further phase II development planned.[3][7][9]
