Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BioCorneum is a topical, silicone-based scar treatment gel designed to manage and prevent the formation of abnormal scars, including hypertrophic and keloid scars. It utilizes a patented crosslinked silicone technology known as Silishield to create a protective, breathable, and waterproof barrier over the scar site. This barrier helps hydrate the scar tissue and normalize collagen synthesis by creating an occlusive environment. Additionally, BioCorneum incorporates broad-spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen to protect healing tissue from ultraviolet radiation, which can cause darkening and hyperpigmentation of the scar. It is frequently used post-surgery or following skin injuries and is marketed by companies such as Sientra and Biodermis. A variant, BioCorneum HC, includes hydrocortisone acetate to provide anti-itch relief during the healing process.
