Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Biocult Strong is an investigational multi-strain probiotic formulation developed by Homeosyn S.r.l. for the treatment of anxiety and obesity-related psychological symptoms. Classified as a live biotherapeutic product (LBP), it contains a specific mixture of eight live bacterial strains: *Streptococcus thermophilus* (SGSt01), *Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis* (SGB06), *Bifidobacterium bifidum* (SGB02), *Lactobacillus delbrueckii spp. bulgaricus* (DSM 20081), *Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis* (SGLc01), *Lactobacillus acidophilus* (SGL11), *Lactobacillus plantarum* (SGL07), and *Lactobacillus reuteri* (SGL01). The formulation targets the microbiota-gut-brain axis and the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, modulating the production of neuroactive compounds such as serotonin and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) to reduce cortisol levels and alleviate anxiety. Clinical trials, including NCT01890070, have demonstrated that a three-week administration of the suspension can significantly reduce Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale scores and improve body composition parameters in women with obesity or normal-weight obesity syndrome.
